of the michigan coalition for responsible gun owners. mark, i will start with you. you heard from the nra a real focus not so much on guns, really talking about mental illness. they talked about tracking people who are mentally ill and pretty much everything, not about taking away guns but adding more guns. what did you make of their news conference today? >> you know, as somebody who's watched the organization for a while, my dad was a licensed gun dealer in colorado, i know a lot of nra members, it was a really surprising performance. the nra is usually quite smart. then again, they've never been under pressure like this. the truth is, it struck me as incoherent and bordering on detached from reality. talking about things lapierre gets paid a lot of money to talk about on a regular basis. it was not the time to say things even nra members don't believe. i think it is important as we have this debate that nra members are not the washington leadership. they're two very different things. nra members want commonsense gun laws. the washington leadership fights very hard against them. you're going t

in newtown. it's not just the white house. it's not just congress. today there's major news out of michigan where the republican governor rick snyder has vetoed legislation that would allow concealed weapons in churches and schools and day care centers. new polls show support for stricter gun control is at a ten-year high. the company that owns the gun maker that produced the rifle used in last week's massacre plans to sell it. calling the shooting a quote, water shed event. and dick sporting goods has suspend the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of their change. this is change. this is different. yet the right wing is already gearing up for a fight. fox news reports that the nra is expected to push back soon. they'll hold a news conference on friday. and republican governors still aren't convinced that guns are the problem. governor jan brewer says quote, i'm not sure additional gun control is something that needs to be addressed. i don't know how we get our arms around it. don't know how to get your arms around it? how about disarming those who shouldn't have weapons? and virginia go

in michigan passed a bill to allow people to carry concealed weapons in churches and in ohio, cars in guns at the state house and in florida, soon issuing their millionth concealed weapon and firearms license. just today, david, in michigan, republican governor rick snyder's pledged to take a closer look at the measure that would allow concealed weapons in schools and churches and reacting to the news not to what many probably assume from the start would be common sense of why would you need a gun in a school? a concealed gun. >> i understand the frustration you're saying. what the good news is that organizations like mayors against illegal guns are in the fight. and in michigan, in particular, the nra had wanted to make sure that the permit system in michigan was abolished for buying handguns and so i think that things are being done. remember, all of these actions happened prior to friday and what happened in newtown. i am telling you that i am absolutely hopeful and i think things are different. i hear that in the news. >> you bring up the nra. let's play what michael bloomberg. >> nra'
